Realistic Business Simulations That Build Skills That Last
Bissim is our flagship team-based business simulation — a hands-on, facilitator-led experience where participants run a virtual company over multiple simulated years. It’s at the heart of most of our programmes, and has been trusted for over 40 years.
Designed for participants to feel the complexity and pressures of real business life, Bissim allows teams to make strategic, financial, and operational decisions, and see their impact in a safe, risk-free environment.
How Bissim Works
Teams work together, without solo screen time, to review the market and competition, discuss options, and agree on decisions. The process can include role plays with stakeholders, so that qualitative inputs - such as how the team make their customers feel - can be accounted for too. Results are processed and shared with the group, showing the impact on every key metric. Each round is reviewed to explore cause and effect, ensure understanding, and to help teams improve performance.
Decisions and Actions
Quantitative e.g. pricing, production, advertising spend
Qualitative e.g. customer experience, supplier relationships, staff engagement
Outputs
Financial performance (financial statements & ratios)
Brand awareness & customer satisfaction
Staff morale, skill & retention
Sustainability & risk (e.g. emissions & geopolitical distance)
management, or industry-specific issues.
Assessing and developing behaviour
Teamwork and individual behaviours can be reviewed and/or assessed
Bissim can integrate with assessment tools like DISC Theory and Myers-Briggs (MBTI)
Why Bissim is Different
We also aim to make it the most meaningful business simulation. Bissim has the flexibility to reflect your business issues and give participants an experience that is relevant to them and your organisation.
Over 40 years of continuous development has created a simulation that is well proven, and our work using it comes with an absolute guarantee.
We aim to make Bissim the most engaging and realistic business simulation. How teams make decisions (without inputting them into a PC) contributes to this.
How has Bissim been used?
Commercial Awareness
A tailored version of Bissim was used in partnership with the law firm Addleshaw Goddard to help their clients (in house lawyers at large corporates) to be more commercial. It was used as both a development and a relationship building activity. These were 1-day programmes.
Finance & Accounting
Different versions of Bissim were used by Aston University to teach Finance and Accounting on Executive, MBA, and Undergraduate programmes.
Graduate Development
UBS used Bissim with their graduate trainees on modules that focused on financial & commercial awareness including acquisition and integration but also covered presentation skills and team behaviour. The programmes were run on-line over 5, half-day sessions.
Leadership Development
Bissim was used on leadership programmes with AAH Pharmaceuticals to explore strategy, decision making and behaviour. These were 2-day programmes.
Leading Change
Bissim was tailored to reflect how Unilever saw their business world and integrate with their valuation creation model. It used by Financial Directors and equivalent to explore strategy, decision making and behaviour in a series of leading change programmes. These were 5-day programmes.
Assessment / Development Centres
Rolls-Royce (aerospace) used Bissim as the core for assessment centres for lawyers in the UK and the US. Bissim was chosen as it could be integrated with other activities and be used to cover both commercial & behavioural competencies. The programmes were run over 1½ days.
